Tarzan of the Apes

ebook
Tarzan of the Apes is the greatest adventure/love-story every written. Adopted by apes when his parents perish in the jungle, Tarzan (white skin) grows up believing himself an ape. Howling insults and flinging and overripe fruits at the more dangerous denizens of the jungle from the safety of arboreal branches, he lives as an ape -- joining in their games, battles and tribal rites -- developing prodigious strength and extraordinary senses. Then one day he stumbles on a weed-enshrouded cabin containing a group of children's books that teach him to read. To his amazement, Tarzan learns he is not an ape, but something called a "m-a-n" and begins to long for others of his kind. But, when he meets them, his idyllic jungle Eden will be shattered forever. Jane Porter is the spirited, daughter of a university professor. Raised among glittering East Coast society, she has led a sheltered existence. She has never known love - though many men have loved her in vain -- or found all the qualities she was looking for in one man. But when she is marooned on the African shore, Jane Porter learns why she had never found the man who could win her heart. For in the midst of direst peril, she discovers a courage and resourcefulness she has never known she possessed - courage and resourcefulness that far exceeds that of the men around her. When she meets Tarzan, Jane Porter at last finds a man who is her match. Though he speaks no language she knows, and lives among the jungle bowers, he has the strength and nobility she has been seeking so long. But, the passion their love ignites only turns to heartbreak because there can be no place for a jungle savage in her world, and no place for a gently-bred woman in his. It's a love that can never be allowed to last, for together they belong to neither world - and soon every man and beast's hand is turned against them.
